About us

Slate is a modern editor for typesetting rich mathematics on the web.

Mathematics is the universal language for technical ideas. People communicate through mathematical formulae what cannot be expressed easily in words, making it an essential tool for writing across disciplines: science, technology, engineering, education, and more.

is the standard for typesetting mathematics. Unfortunately, while it produces high-quality output and is almost universally used in academia; it tends to be cryptic, slow to compile, hard to install on most computers, and only generates print media (PDFs).

Slate simplifies this process. Anyone can open a browser and collaboratively edit with others. The output is rendered in real time by our lightning-fast parse engine, which is powered by Rust and WebAssembly. When you're finished editing, Slate lets you publish documents with one click and share a polished link with readers.
